Peace be upon you ✋ My name is Qusay, and I'm 23 years old. Through my fundraising efforts here on the Chuffed platform I support my elders, my nieces and nephews, as well as the children in our family, to survive these dire and catastrophic circumstances.
I was an international student studying in Morocco and I returned to Gaza some months before the war commenced to visit my family. Due to the military escalation and closure of all border crossings, and I was unable to leave to continue my studies.
On October 7th, 2023 we left our homes, due to the fact that we lived in a border area in Khuza'a, east of Khan Yunis. We took shelter at an UNWRA school near Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, after which we were forcibly evacuated to Rafah. These were very difficult and challenging days for us, as we faced perilous uncertainty and lived in a tent.
The environmental conditions of daily life were polluted and unhygienic. We have a large number of people living in a small space. The ongoing humanitarian crisis was exacerbated by the closure of borders and the prevention of aid from entering Gaza.
On the 1/3/2024 my brother died. It struck me like a thunderbolt and I was devastated by his loss. I now take care of his children; Sham, (10) Adham, (8) and Aylul, (4). I support them through my Chuffed campaign.
In light of the increasingly difficult circumstances in Rafah we were evacuated and headed to the regional areas between Khan Yunis and Rafah. There was no access to potable water and after indescribable suffering we were once more evacuated. We then headed to Bani Sila area in Khan Yunis and settled temporarily in Anaq.
This proved to be a nightmare for my family as the occupation bombed the place where we were all located. My brother Muhammad and his seven children were killed (aged from one year old to thirteen years old). My sister Maha and her husband were also killed but their children survived. They are three children whom we rescued from under the rubble. They are Maryam, (7), Ali, (5) and Ahmed, (5 moths old). I visited them at the European Hospital east of Khan Yunis, I saw them in the grips of death and my heart was trembling. I didn’t know if what I was witnessing was reality or a nightmare. I saw children and women torn apart and in pieces. What was their fault? A truly pitiful situation.
After this tragedy we were briefly evacuated to the Mawasi of Khan Yunis. My remaining family members and I walked on the road for several days as there was no place to set up a tent. The roads were full of displaced people and at this time I really wished for death.
After a few days of this constant moving around and sleeplessness we returned to Bani Suhaila in Khan Yunis and lived there under the sceptre of evacuation. These were days of great fear and anxiety. The bombing and the sound of tanks were so close. The sound of aircraft was frightening. The bullets seemed to fly randomly and came very close, even skimming the top of our tent. Months later a 60 day truce took place and we headed home full of hope. However when the war resumed we left our homes again this time during Ramadan, all the while fasting and exhausted. We returned to Bani Suhaila. From there we were evacuated again to the Mawasi area of Khan Yunis. To this day we still reside there.
My extended family consists of 20 people, and with the current exorbitant prices in Gaza (manufactured and exploitative), it costs thousands per month to meet their basic needs.
We have no income apart from what I raise in donations, no stable housing, limited access to medical care and basic necessities. There is no social support system here and this appeal is my family's only hope.
As I tell you my story I am exhausted. I hope I have been able to convey the fatigue and fear we have been living with for the past two years. I am currently doing my best to support my family.
Qusay supports his extended family and his community in southern Gaza by raising financial donations. Although more supplies are now becoming available inside Gaza, what is available is sold at exorbitant, even insanely inflated, prices. Consequently, Qusay is doing everything in his power to ensure that his family, his families children, and those he cares for have access to life-saving necessities. Qusay has relentlessly campaigned for years to provide for his family, amidst the ongoing genocide being perpetrated by Israel in Palestine. Qusay has cultivated a growing base of supporters and allies across the social media platforms he utilizes; we stand with him because we firmly believe in his right, and the right of his people, to life, dignity, respect, and liberation from the yoke of oppression. Given that Palestinians are currently unable to directly manage their own fundraising campaigns on this platform, our team will be facilitating his campaign from the US and we will continue to transfer donations to him as soon as they are received.
