Humanitarian information can create real-world privacy and safety risks. These principles guide what we publish and how volunteers should work.
Do no additional harm
- Publish only information needed to understand and locate a fundraiser.
- Do not expose private contact details, identity documents, precise locations, or internal notes.
- Avoid graphic detail and language that removes a person’s dignity or agency.
- Escalate credible threats, coercion, exploitation, or child-safety concerns to the project lead.
- Restrict or remove content when safety or privacy risk outweighs the public benefit.
Safe contact
Volunteers should use approved project accounts and should not pressure families for sensitive evidence. Unexpected requests to move payment or communication off-platform should be treated cautiously.
